ColegauCymru is delighted to confirm that our consortium application for the 2025/26 Turing Scheme has been successful. Thanks to this funding, 118 learners - both A Level and vocational - alongside 19 accompanying staff, will take part in overseas mobility placements lasting between 14 and 17 days. A total grant of £258,234 has been awarded, to fund a wide-ranging programme of international learning experiences for further education learners in Wales.
The project, which runs from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026, brings together a strong partnership of three colleges: Cardiff and Vale College, The College Merthyr Tydfil, and St David’s Catholic Sixth Form College.
Mobility destinations include:
- USA Science and Maths
- Germany Engineering
- Japan Aerospace
- Tanzania Healthcare
- Argentina Welsh Language
- India Economics/Maths and English/Creative
These international placements will offer learners valuable opportunities to build technical and academic knowledge while also developing essential soft skills such as adaptability, cultural awareness, communication, and resilience. These are vital attributes that will not only support learners’ current studies but also broaden their future education and career horizons.
A key focus of the project is widening participation. We’re proud to note that 53% of the learners expected to take part come from disadvantaged backgrounds, while 13% are learners with additional learning needs.
ColegauCymru International Project Manager, Siân Holleran, said,
“We are thrilled to have secured this funding for a third year. The Turing Scheme continues to open doors for Welsh learners, providing life-changing experiences and global perspectives. This programme reflects our commitment to inclusivity and excellence, ensuring all learners can benefit from international mobility, regardless of their background.”
ColegauCymru Chief Executive, David Hagendyk, added,
“This success demonstrates the strength of our international work and the power of collaboration across the FE sector in Wales. Through the Turing Scheme, we are helping to create a generation of globally minded learners who are equipped with the skills, confidence and ambition to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. It’s a fantastic opportunity for learners from all backgrounds to experience something truly transformative.”
