Free CPD opportunities to strengthen the transfer of knowledge between teachers in vocational education

ColegauCymru will soon publish the results of commissioned research which looks at  internationalisation in the FE sector in Wales. One of the key findings of the research, conducted by Arad Research, is that work and training placements overseas for vocational learners through Erasmus+ have had wide-ranging benefits for the participants. The main benefit is the positive impact on learners’ confidence, communication skills and personal growth during their international placements.

There is also evidence of benefits for modern foreign language (MFL) learning, but these are generally minimal, and many respondents in the research felt that there should be more emphasis on supporting language skills in a more structured way before, during and after overseas visits to enhance learners’ experiences.

Free CPD opportunities
ColegauCymru would like to draw your attention to some FREE CPD opportunities currently being offered online by the Department for Education in Catalonia, Spain.

These seminars aim to strengthen the transfer of knowledge between teachers in vocational education and to enable them to expand their networks across national borders to encourage innovation in the field of vocational education and training.

The workshop on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) will focus on techniques to teach a vocational subject through the medium of an additional language and provides a compelling reason for learners to engage with, and become competent in, another language.

ColegauCymru International Project Manager Sian Holleran said,

“We believe that equipping vocational learners with contextualised language learning will provide them with opportunities to broaden their horizons both now and in the future, and to get the maximum out of the overseas opportunities on offer to them through the ColegauCymru mobility projects.”

The other FREE sessions will also provide excellent opportunities for staff to gain insights into teaching and learning practices in Spain as well as two informative sessions on the dual VET system that is in place in other EU countries.
