ColegauCymru is committed to working with European partners to ensure that Welsh education qualifications and programs are recognized across Europe. We promote mobility and opportunities abroad and ensure collective recognition of learners' achievements.

On 22 October 2019, ColegauCymru published a report Referencing the Credit & Qualifications Framework for Wales (CQFW) to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

National Contact Point (NCP) for Wales

ColegauCymru is Wales' National Contact Point (NCP) for the coordination of a range of European programmes that help learners, workers, employers, colleges, universities and careers advisors understand how skills and qualifications are recognised across Europe.

Together, these initiatives:

  • relate different countries' national qualifications systems to a common European reference framework, making national qualifications more readable across Europe
  • show the skills and qualifications that are needed to get work in particular trades in Europe
  • provide confidence in the quality assurance of vocational education and training programmes in Europe, building mutual trust
  • enable the recognition of learners’ achievements during periods of study and/or training overseas (which may be financially supported by Erasmus+ funds).

Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales CQFW

As the National Contact Point (NCP) in Wales, ColegauCymru is currently coordinating the re-referencing of the CQFW to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). This work will ensure that qualifications in Wales continue to be aligned to the EQF and, through this, to qualifications in other EU member states. The re-referencing will support the mobility of learners as well as the movement of workers wishing to live and work overseas by making the qualifications they hold clear, comparable and recognised outside Wales and the UK.

ColegauCymru was successful in obtaining funding from the European Commission to undertake the re-referencing and is also managing the funding on behalf of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). ColegauCymru is working closely with Qualifications Wales, Welsh Government, Hefcw, NtFW and other stakeholders in Wales to complete the re-referencing by June 2019.

ColegauCymru worked with colleges and employers in 2010 to put the UK's Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and Wales' Credit and Qualifications Framework Wales (CQFW) into practice in Wales.
